Coaches Shawna Nunes, Phil de la Porte, Kassi Baker and the Ceres High girls summer basketball team returned home from Nevada Sunday night.

Jordan Nash, Emily Coutrakis, Jamie Boling, Kristen McClure and Kyleesha Williams leading the way, the Bulldogs finished fifth in a field of 26 with a 3-2 record at the North Valley High School's Classic basketball tournament, which was held in Reno, July 9-11.
"I took 10 kids and everyone of them played in every game," Nunes said.
Ceres played twice on Friday and Saturday and once on Sunday.
The Bulldogs beat Truckee by 20 points and Colfax by 15 points on Friday, lost to Nevada Union by 15 points and Reed (Reno) by three points on Saturday and defeated Armijo by 15 points on Sunday.
"We play to win but that is not our emphasis," Nunes said. "Our emphasis during the summer is development. We're looking at our younger kids, giving our older kids some more time, trying new things and seeing what we feel does and doesn't work for us."
Ceres concludes its summer season with a tournament in Hawaii later this month. The Bulldogs leave on July 27 and come back on August 3. They'll play five games.
"This is the first time we've gone to Hawaii," Nunes said. "We usually go to Tahoe." - By DALE BUTLER / Staff Reporter of The Ceres (Calif.) Courier
