Ceres High's varsity girls basketball team got back on the winning track by beating Weston Ranch 50-39 in Valley Oak League play on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Phil de la Porte Gym.
Senior post player Kaylee Brown had a monster game for the Bulldogs (4-6 VOL), finishing with 19 points, 14 rebounds and three assists. She also helped limit Cougars forward Tempest Dawson, who had been averaging a team-high 12.6 points, to only eight points and two rebounds.
"Kaylee did a fantastic job offensively and defensively," head coach Shawna Nunes said.
The game was evenly matched until the second half when the Bulldogs outscored the Cougars 26-14. Ceres High used a 15-9 run to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a five-point third-quarter lead.
Nunes attributed the team's turnaround to its performance on both ends of the court.
"We told them to move the ball around and box out," she said.
