The Ceres High varsity girls swimming and diving team concluded its dual-meet schedule in grand fashion. The Bulldogs defeated Grace Davis 103-79 on Thursday in Ceres.
Ceres took over sole possession of third place in the Modesto Metro Conference at 3-2. The Spartans dropped to fourth in the MMC standings at 2-3.
"I was real nervous going into the meet," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia. "Davis has some very talented swimmers."
Ceres performed well thanks in large part to taxing practices.
"We worked a lot on strength and sprinting this week," Garcia said. "It paid off."
The Bulldogs won eight of 12 events. They also had eight third, four fourth and two fifth-place finishes.
Katie Griffith took first in the 200 IM in 2:30.80 and 500 free in 5:52.09.
Jaymie Lenz took first in the 100 breast in 1:13.45 and third in the 100 fly in 1:12.98.
Samantha Walters took first in the 200 free in 2:23.92 and fourth in the 500 free in 6:34.72.
Bailey MacArthur took first in diving with a score of 178.40.
Rachel Holder took second in the 100 free in a personal-best time of 59.48 seconds and 100 breast in a personal-best 1:13.51. She broke a minute in the 100 free for the first-time ever.
Kamie Machado took second in the 100 fly in a personal-best 1:11.99 and 100 back in a personal-best 1:10.88.
Amanda Arrollo took second in the 50 free in 27.11 seconds and fourth in the 100 free in 1:04.77.
Lauren Griffin took third in the 200 IM in 2:40.93 and 100 back in 1:11.19.
Sarah Pullum took third in the 50 free in 28.59 seconds and 100 free in 1:04.53.
Ashliegh Gresham took third in diving with a score of 135.10.
Jessica Johnson took fourth in the 200 free in 2:30.73 and 100 back in 1:13.62.
Christina Currie took fifth in the 200 IM in 2:56.50.
Cassandra Davis took fifth in the 100 breast in 1:32.78.
