Lil Ladies capture 9-10 softball championship

The Lil' Ladies relished knocking off the Fire twice en route to a first-place finish at the Ceres Youth Baseball & Softball Organization's year-end playoff tournament.

The Lil' Ladies, a 9-10-year-old softball team sponsored by 24-hour Road Service Diesel and Trailer Repair, compiled an 0-2 record versus the top-seeded Fire during the regular season.

"Everyone was saying they were unbeatable," Lil' Ladies head coach Ruben Martinez said. "They were beating all the other teams by 10 runs or more. The bottom line is what really beat that team was prayer. God told me we were going to win."

The Lil' Ladies won all six of their playoff games at the George Costa Ball Field Complex.

The Lil' Ladies edged the Fire 7-6 in the championship game on June 12.

The Lil' Ladies scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Lil' Ladies defeated the Fire 8-6 on June 8.
The Fire had a perfect 10-0 record heading into the postseason tourney.

"We played better as a team," Martinez said.

Scarlett Martinez Lloyd, Emily Parker, Bailey Showen, Rebecca Deleon, Kaley Davis, Peyton Phillips, Rosie Parker, Catalina Baranegra, Dajanae Desmond, Kaitlynne Bjerkhole and Amia Brewster suited up for the Lil' Ladies this year.
