The Ceres High girls water polo squad scored seven goals in the first quarter en route to a 16-6 victory over Beyer in Ceres on Thursday.
With the win, the Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 1-2 in the Modesto Metro Conference.
"It's a good win for them," Willems said. "It will boost their morale after losing so bad to Johansen (17-3)."
Six different players scored for the Bulldogs.
Tristin Long scored a game-high seven goals, Kelli Farrell scored three goals, Sarah Willems and Lauren Griffin each scored two goals and Katie Griffith and Denelle Meares both had one goal.
Ceres goalie Amanda Arrollo made 13 saves, including five in the third quarter.
Sarah Alderson and Kim Stone scored twice and Jessica Byrd and Lauren Burubeltz scored once for the Patriots, who fell to 1-2 in the league standings.
"We scrimmaged Beyer already," Willems said. "We knew what they were capable. And we knew we could capitalize on their weaknesses."
Ceres led 9-2 at halftime.
The Bulldogs outscored the Patriots 7-1 in the first quarter.
Long had four goals, Farrell scored twice and Griffith scored once.
Leading 11-5, Ceres outscored Beyer 5-1 in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs held the Patriots scoreless for 6 minutes, 21 seconds.
JV win twice
Ceres High won two of five matches at the Johansen Girls Frosh-Soph Water Polo Tournament, which was held at Johansen and Beyer high schools.
The Bulldogs compiled a 2-1 record in the loser's bracket on Saturday.
They defeated Downey 10-3, lost 10-4 to Golden Valley and beat Buhach Colony 6-5.
