Raiders no match for Bulldogs

No matter the end result, Kody Fliflet, Haley Fisicaro and their Ceres High School varsity swim teammates always remain upbeat.

"That's one of the things I like about this group," head coach Rebecca Sanders said after the Bulldogs swept their Western Athletic Conference dual meet with Central Catholic on Friday in Ceres. "They keep a positive attitude. It's not just about winning. It's about doing well and supporting your team."

Ceres High's girls dominated from start to finish in posting a 106-64 victory over the Raiders.

Thirteen different individuals contributed to the Bulldogs' point total.

"I thought it was going to be a closer meet," Fisicaro. "But everyone did well today. Everybody improved their times."

Haley placed first in the 100 fly and 100 back.

Tori Gunzenhauser placed first in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Payton Mahu placed first in the 50 free and 100 free.

Maureen Nelson placed first in the 200 IM and third in the 100 fly.

Megan Braverman placed second in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Alayja Borja placed second in the 50 free.

Jeanette Dunlap placed second in the 500 free and third in the 100 back.

Monica Zambrano placed third in the 50 free and 100 free.

Ashley Kumar placed fourth in the 500 free and 100 back.

Taylor Andrade placed fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 fly.

Emily Chapman placed fifth in the 200 free.

Raquel Flud placed fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 200 IM.

Kim Cuevas placed fifth in the 500 free and sixth in the 100 breast.

The 200 medley relay team of Mahu, Gunzenhauser, Fisicaro and Braverman placed first.

The 200 medley relay team of Dunlap, Flud, Chapman and Cuevas placed third.

The 200 free relay team of Zambrano, Nelson, Gunzenhauser and Fisicaro placed first.

The 400 free relay team of Dunlap, Mahu, Nelson and Braverman placed first.

Ceres High's boys coasted to a 104-66 win.

"We have a lot more people on the team now," said Kody, who took first in the 200 free and second in the 100 breast last week. "That's why we're winning. It's an awesome feeling."

Victor Cruz finished first in the 50 free and 100 free.

Dylan Hines finished first in the 500 free and 100 back.

Jacob Stone finished second in the 100 fly.

Nick Serratos finished second in the 100 back and third in the 50 free.

Manuel Hernandez finished second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free.

Austin Massie finished second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 breast.

Joseph Ochoa finished third in the 100 fly and 500 free.

Damien Underwood finished third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 breast.

Grant Brown finished fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 free.

Stefan Perry finished fourth in the 100 back and fifth in the 100 fly.

Ryan Medeiros finished fifth in the 200 free.

Gianni Blandino finished fifth in the 500 free.

Cody Azevedo finished sixth in the 200 IM.

The 200 free relay team of Hernandez, Serratos, Underwood and Fliflet finished first.

The 200 free relay team of Azevedo, Perry, Ochoa and Steven Smith finished second.

The 400 free relay team of Cruz, Serratos, Stone and Hines finished first.

The 400 free relay team of Azevedo, Brown, Ochoa and Mario Gonzalez finished third.

The 200 medley relay team of Hines, Fliflet, Stone and Cruz finished second.

The 200 medley relay team of Perry, Massie, Ochoa and Hernandez finished third.

The Bulldogs' post-competition celebration could be overheard in the student parking lot.

 "They've been loud all day," Sanders said. "These kids are really exuberant. It makes it a lot of fun to be out here."

Ceres High's boys and girls teams have 2-1 identical records. The Bulldogs will compete against Livingston and Pacheco this Friday in Los Banos. The double dual meet will get underway at 3:30 p.m.
