Seniors guide Ceres High past Sonora

The Ceres High varsity boys basketball team edged the Sonora Wildcats 42-40 in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Bud Castle Gym in Sonora.

The Bulldogs improved to 8-1 overall. The Wildcats fell to 5-4.

Ceres seniors Matt Schwark, Bryant Hill and Brad Muniz combined for 31 points against Sonora. They had 13, 11 and seven points, respectively. Muniz also grabbed six rebounds.

Scott Schoettgen and Shon Walsh had nine points apiece for Sonora. Jon Hammell, Justin Fowler and Brandon Brockmire added eight, six and four points, respectively.

Down 14-10, the Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 32-25 during the final three quarters of play, including 13-8 in the second and 14-11 in the third.

Ceres turned the ball over on its final possession.

Brockmire missed a half-court shot at the buzzer.

Ceres shot 100 percent (7-for-7) from the free-throw line.

Sonora shot 88 percent (7-for-8) from the foul line.
