The Ceres High track and field team held its annual award banquet at Hometown Buffet in Turlock Friday night.
Dingko Luangchai, Megan Gunzenhauser, Chris Gregg, Kevin Dupree and Ryan Leazer took home awards.
"They all scored lots of points for the team at dual meets," said Ceres coach Drew Brown.
Luangchai won the varsity boys Most Valuable Player Award. The sophomore edged out Leazer, Gregg and Charlie Cunha.
"He was the top point getter," Brown said.
Luangchai did the high, long and triple jump events and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay team for the Bulldogs. He advanced to the section trials in the high jump.
Gunzenhauser won the varsity girls Most Valuable Player Award. The senior beat out Karrah Brown, Jessica Mazza and Natalie Alvarez.
"She's the only girl that qualified for sections," Brown said. "That put her over the top."
Gregg won the Most Improved Award. The junior shaved more than three seconds off his 110-meter hurdles time and six seconds off his 300 hurdles time during the course of the season.
"What he demonstrated usually takes about two years," Brown said. "He did it in a three-month period."
Leazer and Dupree won the Coach's Award.
Leazer, a junior, ran the 100 and 200 and a leg on the 4x100 relay team at sub-sections.
"Ryan had a great year," Brown said. "He trained hard and competed in four races at dual meets. As the season went on, he was one of the leaders out there. His positive enthusiasm rubbed off on the others around him."
Dupree was an alternate in the long jump at the sub-section trials.
