Ceres High School's varsity volleyball team traveled to Vista del Lago on Tuesday, Nov. 9 for a first-round match in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs.

The 11th-seeded Bulldogs lost 25-10, 25-13, 25-9 to the No. 6 Eagles.

"We didn't perform to our potential," Ceres High head coach Stephanie Hamilton said. "We seemed a little sluggish. They were really good and athletic. They could hit any shot they wanted. They had a well-rounded team."

Vista del Lago moved to 31-7 on the year. The Eagles won a share of the Sierra Valley Conference championship (11-1) during the regular season.

Ceres High finished the year with a 17-8-2 record. The Bulldogs tied for second place in the Western Athletic Conference standings (7-3).

Junior setter Jessica Ellsworth collected nine assists, three digs, two kills and one ace against Vista del Lago.

Jamie Beck had eight kills, three digs and one block.

Sabrina Rinsamout, (seven digs and one block), Yvette Huizar (five digs), Sherhea Hamilton (two kills, one block, one assist and one dig), Haley Duarte (two blocks and one kill) and Meagan Humphres (two assists and one dig) also contributed.

"The whole team had an off night," coach Hamilton said.

For the second straight year, Ceres High participated in the playoffs. The Bulldogs improved their seeding by five spots.

"I'm not disappointed at all," Stephanie said. "I told them they should be proud of everything they accomplished. It was wonderful being a part of it. I had a great group of girls. The seniors are going to be missed."

Jamie Beck, Sabrina Rinsamout, Sherhea Hamilton, Yvette Huizar, Haley Duarte and Meagan Humphres graduate in June.
