The Ceres Seahawks Youth Football & Cheer Organization held its 11th annual skills camp, July 26-29, at Central Valley High School.

A total of 65 players, ages 7-14, attended the four-day clinic.

"We had a lot of kids blowing chunks," said Willie Solorio, fifth-year president. "We wanted to get them prepared for Hell (conditioning) Week. That was the purpose of the camp."

Seahawk players completed drills under the direction of coaches from Ceres' varsity, junior-varsity, pee-wee and rookies teams.

Each camp session lasted two hours, 6-8 p.m. the first three days and 8-10 a.m. the last day.

"It wasn't a mandatory camp," Solorio said. "We just wanted to get everybody together. We used it as preparation for the season."

The Seahawks staged their Punt, Pass & Kick competition on July 29.

Ruben Valenzuela (varsity), David Burns Jr. (junior varsity), Gregory Perez (pee wee) and Ancelmo Gonzales (rookies) finished in first place in their respective age groups.

"It was very competitive because we only gave first-place trophies," Solorio said. "It was winner take all."
