The Ceres Sizzle 14-and-under travel softball team won its fourth straight tournament championship this past weekend.

The Sizzle finished first overall while competing in the Gold Bracket of the NSA West Turlock Fiasco Fastpitch Tournament at the Pedretti Sports Park.

Ceres compiled a near-perfect 4-0-1 record at the eight-team event.

“We’re a tough team to beat when we got everything working,” head coach Jeff Graham said. “It’s been enjoyable to watch.”

The second-seeded Sizzle defeated the top-seeded Central Valley Liberty Red 15-2 in the championship game on Sunday.

“We just kept hitting and hitting,” Graham said. “We were aggressive.”

Ceres scored 15 runs on 13 hits and three walks versus Central Valley.

Eight of the Sizzle’s nine players collected at least one hit.

Shelby Alves batted 2-for-4 from the plate with one double, four RBIs and two runs.

Marian Verdugo batted 2-for-3 with one double, two RBIs and three runs.

Genevieve Armenta batted 1-for-4 with one RBI and three runs.

Sydney Graham batted 2-for-3 with three runs.

Vasquez pitched a complete game.

She allowed just one earned run and five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

Ceres earned a hard-fought 8-7 win while battling the third-seeded Central Valley Cyclones-Hurtado in the semifinals.

The Cyclones cut the deficit to one run in the final inning.

“We poured it on them early,” Jeff Graham said. “They battled back. They scored all of their runs in the last inning. I gave them credit for that.”

The Sizzle scored eight runs on eight hits and one walk.

Lozano batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs.

Verduzco batted 2-for-3 with one triple and three RBIs.

Sydney Graham batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Estrella and Payton Graham both batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Alves and Armenta both scored one run.

McClure singled.

McClure and Vasquez split time at pitcher.

McClure gave up five earned runs and six hits with five strikeouts and three wins in 41/3 innings.

Vasquez surrendered two earned runs and four hits with no strikeouts and no walks in a third of an inning.

The Sizzle collected two wins and one tie in pool play on Saturday.

Ceres beat the Central Valley Cyclones (9-4) and Stockton Lightning (7-5).

The Sizzle and Hollister Aftershock tied as both teams scored two runs.

Ceres improved its summer record to 21-8-1.

“They’ve really improved,” coach Graham said. “They’ve been really consistent. They have a great foundation now.”

Ceres will close out the 2025 summer season this weekend at Rainbow Labor Day Tournament.

The Sizzle will compete as a 16-and-under team next month.
