The second season of the Hughson United Soccer League will kick off with an Opening Day Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 a.m. at the Hughson Sports and Fitness Complex, located on Locust Street, off Euclid Avenue, between Samaritan Village and the Hughson Arboretum and Gardens. The public is invited to come out and cheer on the children as each team is announced.

Games begin at 9 a.m.

Increasing registration by more than 50 players, Hughson Soccer has 230 children, ages 4-14 on 28 teams. Games are played every Saturday, Sept. 12 to Oct. 31 at the Hughson Sports and Fitness Complex.

Participating in the first goal kick will be coach/mentors Jim Pfaff and Eddie David who were instrumental in shaping founding Soccer Director José Ramos' dream of bringing organized soccer to Hughson. A long-time elementary teacher with Hughson Unified School District, and soccer coach for Ross Middle and Hughson High Schools, Ramos has a storied career as both a player and a teacher of the game.

Pfaff was a teacher and soccer coach at Downey High School and encouraged Ramos to pursue a college degree and playing collegiate soccer. David was one of Jose's coaches at Stanislaus.
