The Ceres Sizzle Red eight-and-under travel softball team placed second twice this summer.

The Ceres Sizzle Red 8-and-under travel softball team collected two wins and two losses en route to a second-place showing in the Silver Bracket of the July 21-22 Strawberry Jam Tournament in Watsonville.

The tourney featured a total of nine teams.

Samantha Alcaraz, Gabriella Cole and Kaliyah Castillo logged playing time at pitcher.

Leilani DeLeon, Emma Hernandez, Kimora Jackson, Abagale Perry, Arabella Port, Camilla Ramirez, Olivia Sanchez, Daniella Yepez and Adie Yorba all chipped in on offense.

Sophia Santillan contributed at catcher.

The Watsonville Tremblers captured the title with an 8-5 win over the Sizzle on July 22 at Rolling Hills Middle School.

Ceres edged Mountain Dream (Santa Cruz) 3-2 for second place in the evening on July 22.

Alcaraz and Cole both pitched.

Ceres compiled a 1-1 record in Pool C on July 21.

The Sizzle opened the tourney with a 4-2 victory against the Roseville Panthers.

Cole was the winning pitcher.

She shut out Roseville during the first two innings.

“Gabriella pitched an awesome game,” Santillan said.

Castillo picked up the save in relief.

Ceres lost 6-3 to Quicksilver-Batista.

The Sizzle placed second twice during the 2018 summer season. Ceres brought home runner-up trophies from Newman and Watsonville.
