Sizzle Red 8s fall one run short of securing berth to finals in Ceres

The Ceres Sizzle Red eight-and-under travel softball team advanced to the semifinals of its home tournament earlier this month at the George Costa Ball Field Complex.

Ceres compiled a 2-3 record at the Sizzle Summer Classic.

Sizzle Red lost 12-11 to Sizzle-Prudhel in the semifinals on July 8.

Ceres defeated Riverbank 24-17 on July 8.

Sizzle Red routed Modesto Fusion 15-4 and lost 9-6 to Newman on July 7.

Ceres lost 13-11 to Riverbank on July 6.

“I don’t know what they could have done different,” Santillan said. “They did a lot of things right. The effort was there.”

Sizzle Red took second at the Newman Tournament the previous week.

Ceres didn’t place in Riverbank.

The Sizzle Red roster features a total of 12 players, including Leilani DeLeon, Sophia Santillan, Gabby Cole, Danny Yepez, Kimora Jackson, Samantha Alcaraz, Kaliyah Castillo, Olivia Sanchez, Emma Hernandez, Arabella Port, Adie Yorba and Abagale Perry.

“They understand the game more now,” Jessica Santillan said. “They’ve improved their communication with each other.”
