Sheriff's deputies found the body of a developmentally disabled man Tuesday who was reported missing the night before at the Fox Grove Fishing Access area near Hughson. The man, who had the mental capacity of an eight year old child, is believed to have drowned.

Brian Peeper, 41, of Modesto, was at the popular recreation area along the Tuolumne River with family members when he turned up missing at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The family searched the area for two hours before calling 911. Family told deputies that Brian was last seen wearing a personal floatation device.

Air Med and the Sheriff's helicopter searched the area at night but were unable to locate him. The search included Hughson Fire Department, Sheriff's deputies and canines from the Sheriff's and Modesto Police departments. All they were able to turn up was some of Peeper's personal belongings. The search was called off after hours of searching.

The search resumed at 7:48 a.m. yesterday with deputies combing the banks with a boat. They located Peeper's body at 9:00 a.m. concealed by shore line vegetation near the boat ramp. He was still wearing a floatation device.
