• MAN TASERED AFTER ATTEMPTED CAR THEFT: CERES - A car theft suspect was tasered by Sgt. Dennis Perry Thursday afternoon, May 27, after he attempted to flee from the car and failed to stop to his commands.

An alert citizen called 911 at 1:08 p.m. to report two suspicious men loitering around a car in the 1900 block of Pleasant Avenue. Sgt. Perry spotted the two males in a blue 1995 Nissan Ultima and said Rene Madrigal, 36, was attempting to start it with a screwdriver. When Madrigal saw the officer, he attempted to run away and disregarded commands to stop. Perry deployed his Taser to stop Madrigal in his tracks.

He was arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools, being under the influence of a controlled substance and violating the terms of his parole.

Passenger Rito Vazquez, 25, of Ceres, was interviewed and released.

• DUI ALLEGED: CERES - Jason Richards, 45, of Ceres, was arrested and booked on a charge of suspicion of drunk driving Friday evening after he was seen by Officer Ron Collins making an unsafe left turn movement in the path of oncoming traffic.

The incident happened at 9:14 p.m. as Richards was driving his white Ford pickup southbound on Herndon Avenue and making a turn into the McDonald's parking lot at Hatch and Herndon. Collins said Richards ran over a parking lot planter before stopping. Richards had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, said Lt. Brent Smith.

• SUSPECT CHARGED IN SCHOOL BURGLARY: CERES - Twenty-nine-year-old Ceres resident Ronald Beltran was arrested for burglarizing Walter White Elementary School early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the Sixth Street campus after an alarm went off at 3:12 a.m. Officer Jon Vera arrived and saw Beltran walking away from Room 37, carrying a computer keyboard and pushing a bicycle. Officer Vera searched the suspect and found a screwdriver, which Beltran admitted using to remove two windows to gain access into the classroom. Outside the room police found a small amplifier and a small electric air pump which police believe Beltran was going to return to fetch.

Lt. Brent Smith said that Beltran admitted to the break-in. Beltran was booked on charges of possession of burglary tools, commercial burglary and parole violation.

• SHOPLIFTER FOUND WITH DRUGS: CERES - A Walmart store security guard detained a Ceres woman for shoplifting on Monday, May 31 and a Ceres police search later revealed she was carrying methamphetamine.

At 5:55 p.m. the store security officer stopped Julie Farrar, 36, of Ceres, after she allegedly tried to steal $12.37 worth of merchandise. Officer Chris Melton assisted and located a small amount of meth on Farrar.

She was booked on charges of petty theft and possession of methamphetamine.

• MAN SHOT ON PARKLAWN AVENUE: SOUTH MODESTO - A 29-year-old local man was treated for a gunshot wound Sunday evening after being shot as he was walking in the 900 block of Parklawn Avenue in South Modesto.

Jose Ochoa was shot in the upper torso as he was walking in the neighborhood at approximately 5 p.m. He told Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies that the gunman shot several times at him with a handgun. He provided a vague description of his assailant and said he didn't know who the man was.

Ochoa was treated at a local hospital.
