WEEKEND OF DUI ARRESTS: CERES - Over-imbiding in alcohol caused the arrests of a number of men over the weekend in Ceres.

At 12:37 a.m. early Saturday morning, police arrested Jauino R. Barraza, 23, of Keyes for driving while intoxicated in the 4000 block of Rhode Road.

An officer made a DUI arrest in the 900 block of Acacia Street at 9:24 p.m. Saturday. Juan L. Villa. 28, of Modesto, was determined to be driving drunk as well as driving on a suspended license.

Four more alcohol-related arrests came on Sunday.

At 5:29 p.m. an officer arrested Rigoberto Soto, 45, of Atwater, after seeing him passed out near a house in the 2900 block of Boreal. Soto was booked on charges of public intoxication.

Hector Garcia, 45, of Modesto, was arrested at 9:09 p.m. in the 13900 block of Hatch Road for DUI.

A short while later, at 11:05 p.m. Jorge S. Martinez, 25, of Ceres, was arrested after he was pulled over in the 2800 block of Second Street. Martinez at first gave a false name to the officers, which netted him an additional charge to the DUI.

At 11:09 p.m. Enrique Urvina, 28, of Turlock, was arrested in the 1900 block of Morgan Road for DUI.

ARREST IN TIRE SLASHING: CERES - A 58-year-old Modesto man was arrested Sunday evening after he allegedly slashed the tire on a car owned by someone he knew.

At 10:12 p.m. on Sunday officer Dan Fairchilds was on patrol and saw Juan Madriz, 58, hanging around a parked vehicle. The officer went back for another look and saw Madriz walking off in the 1300 block of Pecos. Fairchilds noticed that Madriz looked as through he were intoxicated and had been carrying a long object in his hand. When he stopped Madriz to do a pat-down search, the object was gone but located was a sheath for a long knife tucked away in his pants. The officer backtracked Madriz's steps and found a kitchen knife with a 6" to 8-inch blade in a yard. The car he had been standing by had a slashed tire.

The owner of the car knows Madriz but didn't know why he slashed the tire.

Madriz was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, vandalism and public intoxication.
