MOTEL YIELDS FELON, STOLEN GUN: CERES - Police arrested a man wanted for felony warrants Tuesday, Feb. 10 after finding his car with fraudulent license plate tags.

Johnny Gonzales, 31, was arrested at the Howard Johnson Inn in the 1600 block of Herndon Road, at 10:35 p.m.

Officer Joe Wren made the license plate discovery and learned that the suspect was staying at the motel. After knocking on the door, he heard commotion inside and also a toilet being flushed.

When a woman opened the door, officer Dan Fairchilds saw a lump under the mattress and found Gonzales, a searchable parolee. Officers searched the room and found a semi-automatic 9-mm handgun in the toilet tank. Its magazine was in a toilet paper roll and the bullets were in the toilet bowl since they were unsuccessfully flushed.

The weapon had been stolen. Gonzales was booked on the warrants for spousal abuse and resisting arrest. He also was charged with receiving stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, obstructing justice.
