STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED: CERES - A child and two teenagers were arrested Friday after they stole a vehicle in the 1000 block of Twilight Drive and went on a ride.
Arrested were a 12-year-old Ceres boy and 14- and 16-year-old boys from Modesto. All three admitted they took the car and were booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and auto theft.
At 8:57 p.m., the owner of the car saw the theft taking place and video recorded four suspects. Approximately 40 minutes later, police received a call about a car being driven recklessly in the area of Georgeanne and San Pedro. Officer Dirk Newenheis spotted the car abandoned and running in the middle of Maxim and Sariya. He did a search of the area and spotted three juveniles walking eastbound from the abandoned car and stopped them. All three were positively identified as the thieves by the owner.
BURGLAR AND GOODS SEIZED: CERES - A fingerprint led police to arrest Alejandro Rubio, 20, of Ceres, for residential burglary last week.
Two neighbor boys, aged five and eight, watched the burglary take place in the 1600 block of Running Lane at 11:28 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8. Police arrived and found the house was ransacked. Community Service Officer Michelle Houston lifted a latent print and learned the print belonged to Rubio. Police later recovered many of the stolen items, including a screen TV, from a Delhi storage unit.
POWER BOX DAMAGED: CERES - Police arrested a Ceres driver after he allegedly drove drunk into a Turlock Irrigation District electrical equipment box before fleeing on foot.
Shane Sawyer, 24, of Ceres, was charged with drunk driving and hit and run stemming from the 1 a.m. crash on Friday, March 11.
Lt. Brent Smith said Sawyer and two others were found walking at Farm Supply Drive and Partee Lane away from the crash of a 1990 GMC pickup into the equipment at 4200 Brewmaster Drive. They admitted being in the crash.
COCAINE FOUND ON SPEEDING DRIVER: CERES - Officer Jon Vera stopped a speeding motorist at Pecos and Acacia on the morning of Monday, March 7 and arrested Elelin Suarez, 23, of South Modesto, for drugs and driving on a suspended license.
Vera pulled over Suarez at 10:19 a.m. and found a small amount of cocaine, which netted him a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Suarez was also charged with driving at excessive speeds.
ARSON SUSPECT ARRESTED: CERES - A Ceres man was arrested Wednesday, March 9, and charged with felony vandalism and arson after allegedly setting fire to juniper trees in front of the Condit residence on Acorn Lane.
Officer Jose Beltran was driving through the area and saw a 40-foot-tall juniper just starting to burn and Matthew Lee , 34, of Ceres running from the scene. Beltran used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and apprehended Lee.
PROBATION SEARCH NETS DRUGS: CERES - A probation search of the mobilehome residence of Aaron Bailey, 45, of south Modesto, netted the confiscation of drugs and his arrest early on Monday, March 14.
The search was conducted by the Ceres Police Department's Street Crimes Unit at Space 11 of 822 Byrstrum Road. Officers located 13 grams of methamphetamine, scales and money.
Bailey was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine for sale, and violating probation.
