• HIT & RUN TRACKED DOWN: CERES - A witness followed a hit-and-run driver Wednesday evening and led police to the arrest of Charles Love, 27 of south Modesto.

At 11:13 p.m. a resident saw a parked car had been struck in front of 1749 Kinser Road. The witness followed the driver as he took off and called police. A patrol officer picked up the pursuit as it pulled up to 1605 Imperial Avenue.

Love was arrested for DUI, hit and run and suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics.

"There was good witness action going on," said Lt. Brent Smith.

• BURGLARY INTERRUPTED: CERES - A Turlock man faces burglary charges after a Ceres resident returned home Tuesday, Feb. 15 to find two men in his garage.

The resident came home to the 3500 block of Southern Oak Drive at 3:54 p.m. and heard someone in his garage. The man went into his house and saw two men leaving through the garage door into the backyard where he tackled Harpreet Singh Atwal, 22. Neighbors helped hold down Atwal until police arrived. The other suspect got away.

Atwal threw a bag over the fence before he was tackled. Police said it contained video games and stereo equipment taken from the ransacked home.

• DRUG CHARGES: CERES - Isaac Ishak, 47, of Ceres, faces two drug charges after he was seen by Officer Jose Beltran asleep in his car parked at the Valero gas station at 3021 Fourth Street on Saturday.

Beltran was on patrol at 3:22 a.m. when he saw Ishak passed out in the car with the driver's door open. Ishak was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a pipe used to smoke it.

• MAN FOUND WITH DRUGS: CERES - Officer James Riley made an arrest of a 37-year-old Ceres man who was wandering in the street early Monday and found with heroin.

uan De la Cruz was looking suspicious to the officer when he was patrolling the area of Industrial and Central avenues at 12:10 p.m. De la Cruz consented to a search which turned up the drugs.

• LOADED GUN FOUND IN CAR: CERES - Thomas Huston, 52, of Ceres, was arrested for possessing a loaded handgun as he slept in his car in the McDonald's parking lot at Whitmore Avenue and Morgan Road on Sunday morning, Feb. 20.

An officer saw the suspicious car in the lot at 12:20 a.m. and saw Huston sleeping behind the wheel with a loaded handgun on the dash. Police also found $5,700 in cash inside the vehicle.

• CHILD STRUCK BY VAN: CERES - An 8-year-old child sustained minor injuries Monday afternoon as he was in the street near a food vendor truck.

The boy was on Central Avenue at Hackett Road at 1:52 p.m. near a United Samaritans food truck that parked to dispense food to the needy. At that time a full sized pickup traveling northbound at a slowly rate of speed hit the child. The boy sustained scrapes to his left ankle and sustained a bump on the head. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The driver of the pickup, Jose Madrigal, 39, of Ceres, stayed at the scene and was not cited.
