A 26-year-old Riverbank man was apprehended Friday evening after fleeing a Ceres Police officer in Modesto thanks to the Sheriff’s helicopter crew who tracked him from above.

Ceres Police Officer Kevin Gallenkamp was driving on Highway 99 in the area of Kansas Avenue at 11:44 p.m. when he tried to stop Isaiah Meza who was riding a white motorcycle with missing license plates. Meza thought he could ignore the officer and flee but the police pursuit was on. Officer Gallenkamp requested assistance from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office air unit, which was overhead within two minutes and tracking the suspect as the officer backed off and followed from a safe distance. Meza was followed as he traveled on streets through Modesto until he drove to Riverbank, and stopped at a home in the 6200 block of Shaffer Court where he was arrested.

Meza was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for felony evading.
