A 35-year-old man admitted to police that he was the one who used a rock to smash the front window of Walgreens on Hatch Road early Thursday, Nov. 15  to steal cigarettes along with a four pack of Bic lighters.

Video captured images of James Franklin Keever II throw the rock through the front glass, wait and then enter the store with a light red shirt covering his face from video cameras as he helped himself to several packs of cigarettes behind the cashier station.

The alarm at 1:18 a.m. alerted police. Officer Jon Vera arrived and patrolled the area looking for the suspect. He found Keever walking northbound on Central Avenue near Nadine Avenue. Because Keever was on searchable probation for theft, he was searched and found with the stolen goods inside his right jacket pocket. In a Walgreens bag were packs of unopened cigarettes along with a four pack of Bic lighters.

At first Keever stated he was at Walgreens when he was approached by a stranger who offered to exchange cigarettes for crystal meth. He later admitted burglarizing and apologized for not telling the truth earlier.

Keever was booked for commercial burglary.
