Beer theft lands man in jail
Ceres Cop Car

The theft of two 24-ounce cans of beer resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old Santa Cruz man Sunday morning.

A California Highway Patrol officer who stopped by the 7-Eleven at Service and Mitchell roads for a cup of coffee at 9:08 a.m. arrested the suspect. The officer saw James Moore run out of the store with the beer and arrested him. Moore stated that he was an alcoholic and needed the beer to "prevent seizures" and said he was too embarrassed to ask a friend to buy it that early in the day.

Moore was booked for shoplifting.
