A 35-year-old Ceres man will face charges that he punched a Ceres Police officer in the face Wednesday morning after reports came in about his bizarre behavior.

At 8:30 a.m. Officer Alex Ochoa responded regarding a male hitting golf balls at Roeding Heights Park and acting erratically. Officer Ochoa approached Everett Gutierrez, 35, of Ceres who was uncooperative and refused orders to show his hands.

Gutierrez reached for the golf club but Officer Ochoa grabbed him in an effort to detain him.  Gutierrez punched the officer in the face and then was pinned to the ground until other officers arrived. After a brief struggle, Gutierrez was arrested and booked for resisting and obstructing a peace officer and battery on a peace officer.
