Crash blamed on pot-high driver
Ceres Cop Car

Marijuana use by a 25-year-old Modesto man was cited by Ceres Police as the cause of a driver losing control and flipping his car on its roof Wednesday evening.

The crash in the 700 block of Cadillac Drive was reported at 8:32 p.m. by a caller who
believed driver Gerardo Cortes Torres was under the influence of a drug.

Officer Mike Vierra noted that Torres was unsteady on his feet, nearly fell over twice, had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and an odor of marijuana. Torres said his car pulled to the right and that is why he collided with the parked vehicle. Torres said he smoked marijuana about eight hours prior. Vierra believed Torres was under the influence of marijuana and unable to drive. Before he was booked for DUI, a sample of Torres' blood was drawn at Doctors Medical Center in preparing for a trial.
