Driver asleep behind the wheel arrested for DUI
Ceres Cop Car

David Ortiz, 27, of Modesto, went to jail Saturday morning after Ceres Police found him passed out drunk while sitting behind the wheel of a running vehicle on the side of Mitchell Road south of Whitmore Avenue.

Officer Coey Henson was dispatched at 7:23 a.m. near the Burger King on Mitchell Road and saw Ortiz asleep. He reached into the window and turned off the ignition and removed the keys before wakening Ortiz, who appeared to be drunk.

Ortiz told Officer Henson, "I'm not gonna lie I've had quite a bit to drink." When asked how much, Ortiz replied, "A lot, about five or six beers." Ortiz said he was coming from his friend's house in Turlock and left at about 2 a.m. Ortiz said he got so tired he pulled over and slept. During a field sobriety test Ortiz could not even say the alphabet correctly. He started at A and stopped at S and said, "that's all I can remember."

Ortiz was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Ortiz provided a preliminary breath sample with a result of .17 Blood Alcohol Content, over twice the legal limit.
