Driver faces DUI charge after hitting and running
Ceres Cop Car

A 56-year-old Modesto man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly rear-ending a second vehicle and taking off.

The incident occurred at 7:43 p.m.

The victim reported he was eastbound on Hatch Road and stopped for a red light at Moffet Road. A car behind him hit him and then fled eastbound. The victim followed the driver into Voyagers Cove Mobile Home Park, 2845 E Hatch Road, and blocked in the suspect's red Nissan Altima.

Officer Krandall Vandagriff determined that the hit-and-run suspect, Pernel Prothro, 56, of Modesto, had been drinking. Prothro said he consumed "several drinks" while at a friend's house and agreed to perform a field sobriety test. Prothro was placed under arrest for DUI. Prothro requested to provide a breath sample. The results were 0.18 BAC over double the legal limit.

Prothro was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for DUI, and hit-and-run causing injury as the victim hit had a complaint of pain.
