A 32-year-old Modesto man with a history of drunken driving was back in the Stanislaus County Jail on Saturday evening after he crashed into a parked car in the 1500 block of Herndon Road and fled.
The crash was reported at 5 p.m. Officer Samuel Garcia rolled to the area and found the suspect’s vehicle parked at a residence in the 1200 block of Vito Avenue. and Officer Garcia responded to the residence. Upon arrival, Officer Garcia located the responsible vehicle, a grey-colored Ram pickup but the driver was gone. He found located the suspect, Ruffo Mendoza-Gomez, 32, of Modesto, asleep on the side yard of the home. Officer Garcia roused Mendoza-Gomez who not only appeared intoxicated but had a handgun with a removed serial number in his pocket.
Mendoza-Gomez was booked for DUI, his third in a 10-year period. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm with a removed/altered identification.
