A 28-year-old intoxicated San Jose man was arrested in Ceres while he was out of control at a purported car crash in the parking lot of Family Pizza, 2921 E. Whitmore Avenue, early Thursday morning.

Police received a report at 12:50 a.m. about a possible injury crash of vehicles in the parking lot. When they arrived they saw a heavyset Hispanic man with no shirt sitting in the front passenger seat of a green Dodge Caravan in the lot. The man’s mother was present and identified him as 28-year-old Andres Meza of San Jose, since he could hardly speak due to his drunken state.

Meza began yelling at his mom that the crash was her fault even though there was no crash. Officer attempted to calm Meza and keep him seated but he would not comply and became enraged. He started a physical struggle with officers, yelling for them to take him to jail. Because of his large size, Meza easily overpowered attempts of officers to handcuff him. Officer Brian Petersen was able to apply a carotid restraint placing Meza unconscious and allowing other officers to safely take him into custody. Once detained Meza was immediately treated by as a paramedic.

Meza was medically cleared by doctors at Doctors Medical Center prior to his booking at the County Jail on charges of public drunkenness and resisting arrest.
