Two Modesto teenagers were arrested in Ceres Wednesday evening for being drunk in a car and in possession of an illegal gun.

At 10:42 p.m, Officer Eric Souza came across an occupied Honda parked blocking in an alleyway near Darrah Street and Lois Way. Inside the car were Jeffery Mendez Jr., 19, and Roberto Padilla, 18, both of Modesto, who both appeared intoxicated. Open alcohol containers were seen in the car.

Officer Souza had both men get out of the vehicle and during a search, the glove box was found with a loaded 9 mm handgun. The gun had no manufacturer marks or serial numbers and is commonly known as a “ghost gun.”

Both Mendez and Padilla were arrested for weapons charges as well as being intoxicated in public and possession of alcohol by a minor.
