Ceres Cop Car

A 28-year-old man who was pulled over Monday evening for speeding and showing obvious signs of intoxication had begged Officer Justin Canatsy to shoot him before he was arrested.

Canatsy was patrolling in the area of Peltola Street at 10:52 p.m. when he saw a driver speeding in the 25 mph residential zone at approximately 55 mph. The officer followed the driver, Jaime Hernandez, 28, of Ceres, who continued on until he pulled into a parking stall in the Vineyard Apartments complex at 1625 Richland Ave. According to Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Keith Griebel, Hernandez allegedly jumped out of the car and told Officer Canatsy to shoot him.

Jaime Hernandez, 28, of Ceres, was detained and evaluated for being under the influence of alcohol. When he blew into the breathalyzer it registered a blood alcohol concentration of .16, which is double the legal limit.

Hernandez was charged with DUI.
