A 25-year-old Modesto man was jailed for drunken driving early Friday after he crashed his car into another car, fled the scene and evaded a pursuing police sergeant.

At 2:16 a.m., Ceres Police Sgt. Vince Hooper was patrolling the area of Mitchell Road and Adrian Way when he saw a Chevrolet Malibu speeding southbound on Mitchell Road. He then watched the car collide into another vehicle and the curb before speeding off westbound on Hatch Road. Sgt. Hooper attempted to chase after the driver but stopped after seeing how erratic the driver had become.

A short while later, driver Scott Betliskey, 25, of Modesto was located inside the vehicle parked in a shopping center on Crows Landing Road. Betliskey was physically removed from the vehicle and arrested. Because he appeared intoxicated Betliskey underwent a DUI investigation with a breath sample showing he was over twice the legal limit to drive.

Betliskey was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of DUI, evading a peace office and hit and run.
