Ex accused of vehicle vandalism

Jazmin Rivas, 27, of Modesto, was have to answer in court to charges that she bashed out the windows of her ex-boyfriend's pickup at the Vineyard Apartments at 1625 Richland Avenue on Saturday.

The 28-year-old victim was inside his apartment with his children at 4:50 p.m. when he was alerted that his ex was destroying his truck with a tire iron. He confronted her with a friend. The woman allegedly had broken the windows and was in the process of slashing the tires with a knife when she raised the tire iron. He tried to prevent her from further damaging the vehicle but she ran toward the apartment where her kids were. Fearing for the children's safety, Rivas was tackled before she reached the unit. The two men tried to detain Rivas but she got away after biting the victim on the shoulder and left arm.

Rivas was arrested after she called 911 to report being the victim of a battery. She also denied vandalizing the truck. She was charged with domestic violence and vandalism.
