Reports of a Toyota Camry being driven down the opposite lane of traffic and on its rims led Ceres Police to arrest a 28-year-old Oakdale man for auto theft Sunday evening.

After receiving the report at 5:49 p.m., Officer Jacob Valenzuela went to the area of Hatch Road and Richland Avenue in search for the car. He followed the grooves left in the asphalt by the rims to the Hatch Road CVS parking lot where it was parked. Standing next to the car was Manuel Chavez who had keys to the car. Officers learned that the car was stolen and Chavez initially lied about his true identity, which was later confirmed. Chavez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and providing a false name to officers.
