A 22-year-old Gustine man on bail from jail was arrested early Tuesday, Sept. 19 after he led Ceres Police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen car.

The incident began at 12:56 a.m. in the area of Central Avenue and Keyes Road when Ceres Police Officer Kevin Roseen located a white-colored Dodge Charger that had just been reported stolen.

As Officer Roseen attempted to stop the driver – later identified as Arturo Acosta Vega, 22, of Gustine – but he drove into through an orchard and came out moments later. As Vega fled southbound on Faith Home Road officers discontinued the pursuit due to the fact that the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit tracked him from the air. Vega failed to negotiate a turn in the area of Turner Avenue and Faith Home Road and plowed into a cornfield. Vega ran from the vehicle but was apprehended with the assistance of the helicopter unit and a canine.

Vega was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of auto theft, resisting arrest, evading in a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and committing a crime while out on bail.
