Local arrested for drugs in front of closed store

A 35-year-old Ceres man known to police was back in jail on Tuesday evening, Jan. 29 after an officer found him with drugs in front of a closed Hatch Road business.

Officer Nicolas Welsh was patrolling the Hatch Road area at 9 p.m. when he saw a suspicious man light up and began smoking in front of the business in the 1500 block of Hatch Road. As soon as the man spotted the patrol car, he immediately ducked behind a pillar in front of the business. 

Welsh walked over to the man and recognized him as Ceres resident Daniel Campbell, who was had a warrant for his arrest and was on searchable probation. During a search Officer Welsh found Campbell with heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, probation violation and the warrant.
