A 42-year-old Modesto man was arrested Tuesday evening, July 9 as he was walking down the street carrying power tools he was seen earlier taking from the Home Depot store on Hatch Road.

The store called police at 6:36 p.m. to report that a man, later identified as Kevin Coleman, 42, of Modesto, had taken two power tools from the store without paying for them. An employee followed Coleman, asking him to return the items but he refused and was last seen walking toward the Hatch Road overpass.

Ceres Police Officer Adam Hall located Coleman walking on South Ninth Street from the southbound Highway 99 on-ramp. He was holding two power tools. The store employee was brought to Coleman’s location and positively identified him as the thief.

Coleman was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on shoplifting charges.
