Man arrested for drugs after stealing bike
Ceres Cop Car

Because the bicycle he was riding at night didn't have rear-facing reflectors, a 48-year-old Ceres man was pulled over by a Ceres police officer who also discovered drugs on him.

Officer Eric Souza was on patrol at 10:21 p.m. on Aug. 31 when he saw Jude Casteneda peddling the bike eastbound on Darby Lane east of Richland Avenue. Souza conducted an enforcement stop on Casteneda for vehicle code violations. During a pat down search, Souza found a methamphetamine smoking pipe in Casteneda's pocket and clear plastic baggy containing an ounce of meth. Castenda was placed under arrest and charged with drug possession and drug sales.

While conducting his investigation a woman approached Souza and said she was selling the bike Casteneda was on, that he had taken it for a test ride and never returned it. Casteneda confirmed this the woman's story so the bicycle was released to her with the bike owner not pressing charges.

Casteneda was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center where he wrote a note to the officer, saying, "Thank you, I need help."
