Man arrested for sexual assault on ex-wife

Ceres Police arrested a man on on Monday evening, May 15, on charges that he broke into his estranged wife's home through a dog door, threatened her with a gun and committing a sexual assault.

The alleged assault occurred around 10:20 p.m. on April 29 at the woman's home near Hatch Road and Central Avenue. The woman managed to text a friend who contacted police while 53-year-old Kevin Charles Sales, was leaving the house.

Sales had been wanted since the report but was arrested at his mother's home on in the 3900 block of Gable Way north of Keyes. He was charged with suspicion of rape by force, making criminal threats, burglary of an inhabited dwelling, brandishing a firearm and violating an emergency protective order.

The victim was granted the protective order just a few weeks before the incident, according to court records. She stated in court that Sales had previously abused her and threatened to kill her when she tried to leave him.

She said since she told him in February that she wanted a divorce he called her thousands of times in 40-second intervals until she changed her number. She said she caught Sales stalking her while hiding in her backyard.
