Donavan Saldana, 32, of Ceres was arrested early Wednesday, April 7 after police determined he likely was abusing his 74-year-old grandmother in the 1600 block of Running Lane.

Saldana also made threats to arresting officers.

At 1:02 a.m., Officers Aaron Pinion and Nicolas Welsh responded to a call for a security check on the elderly female. Saldana said his grandmother was in need of an ambulance earlier, but no longer needed one. Officers checked on the grandmother and discovered she was in distress. After an elder abuse investigation was conducted, Saldana was arrested for elder abuse, violation of a court order and preventing or dissuading a witness.

After Saldana’s arrest, he made threats of physical violence to the arresting officer to dissuade the officer from performing his duties. Saldana also faces charges of threatening a law enforcement officer. Saldana was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
