Man joy riding on stolen dirt bike arrested

A man who was reported riding a stolen dirt bike while high on drugs was arrested Thursday evening, Sept. 27 after he fled from officers.

At around 9 p.m. Ceres police dispatchers took a call about a male under the influence of drugs and riding a stolen dirt bike in the area of Hatch Road and Central Avenue. Approximately 20 minutes later, while handling an unrelated call at Hatch and Richland, officers saw the man pull into the dirt bike into the AM/PM on Hatch Road. Police attempted to stop the rider but he fled eastbound on Hatch Road at a high rate of speed and then went north on Stonum Avenue.  Realizing the dangers of high speeds in a residential area, police set up a perimeter of the neighborhood instead of actively engage in a pursuit.

Several minutes later, officers were advised that the suspect and dirt bike had appeared at a trailer park on S. Seventh St. in south Modesto. Officers went to the area to arrest Anthony Carrasco, 31, of Modesto. During their investigation, officers identified Carrasco as the rider of the dirt bike. He was arrested and charged with evading police, possession of burglary tools, possession of a switchblade knife and probation violations.

The dirt bike was never located however the suspect possessed the key to the dirt bike.
