Man runs for stolen vehicle but police catch him

A stolen car was recovered Tuesday morning, Jan. 17 and its driver arrested after its owner and a private citizen got involved and provided Ceres Police with tips.

At 9:43 a.m., officers were alerted to the 1300 block of Hatch Road where a citizen who was following their vehicle, a black sedan, which had yet to be reported as stolen. Officer Jon Blount located the vehicle and chased after it over several miles but lost sight of it in the area of Sixth Street and Thomas Avenue.

Minutes later at 9:52 a.m., dispatchers received a call from a citizen who reported the involved vehicle possibly in the 2400 block of Mauna Kea Drive where he saw a Hispanic man and woman running from it and jumping a fence into a residential backyard.

Officers converged on the area and located both hiding in a shed. The driver, Raymond Garcia, 36, of Modesto was arrested and booked for auto theft, possession of stolen property, evading police, resisting arrest, a felony warrant and a probation violation and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
