Men in her life arrested in car stop

The brother and husband of a female driver pulled over for driving a car with expired registration were both arrested on different charges on Tuesday, Dec 8.

Officers Dirk Nieuweinhuis and Mike Vierra made a car stop in the 1000 block of Pecos Avenue at 9:38 p.m. Police said a loaded handgun was found concealed near the front passenger's seat where Miguel Vargas, 30, of Ceres, was sitting. He was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm.

During the traffic stop, the female driver's husband rolled up on his bike and said he was concerned about his wife being pulled over. Tomas Raya, 25, of Modesto, showed signs of being under the influence and was arrested for public intoxication.

The female driver was not arrested.
