A man who bailed from a car stopped on Sunday due to erratic driving and the running of a stop sign and a red light was arrested due to warrants.
A Ceres Police officer was on patrol at 4:58 p.m. in the area of South Ninth Street and Hosmer Avenue when he followed a car that failed to yield at the traffic controls. When the driver was pulled over, passenger Johnny Herrera, 35, of Modesto, bolted from the car on foot. Herrera was chased and was apprehended.
Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry said that it appears Herrera ran because he had felony warrants for his arrest and "didn't want to go to jail."
The driver was not intoxicated but was given citations for running the stop sign and red light.
