Patrick Padilla, 25, of Modesto was arrested and booked for felony possession of stolen property and auto theft after he was seen riding around on a stolen motorcycle in Voyager’s Cover Mobile Home Park, 2845 E Hatch Road on Thursday evening, Nov. 15.

A resident called police at 5:01 p.m. to report that a maroon two-door Honda Civic with missing license plates was parked in his driveway. Officer Nick Welch learned the vehicle had been stolen the prior day. A teal and black Honda motorcycle, which had been stolen in Modesto last December, was also parked in the driveway.

Both vehicles were towed to be returned to their owners.

Officer Welch found one witness who identified Padilla as the one who was riding the motorcycle around the complex earlier in the day. Officer Welch alerted other officers to look out for Padilla but shortly thereafter someone called 9-1-1 to say Padilla had returned to the park and was running westbound and jumping fences. Officers located Padilla and detained him after a short chase.

Padilla denied knowing the vehicles were stolen or who to whom the vehicles belonged.

Because Padilla was in possession of a controlled substance during the booking process at the Public Safety Center and didn’t report it, he was also charged with bringing contraband into jail.
