An intoxicated 25-year-old Ceres man unsuccessfully tried to ditch a Ceres Police officer attempting to pull him over for vehicle code violations and was jailed after a short Thursday evening pursuit.

Ceres Police Officer Tyler Wilson was on patrol at 10:35 p.m. in the area of Mitchell and Hatch roads when he attempted to stop a blue Mitsubishi Eclipse for the violations. The driver, Luis Diaz Lizarraga, accelerated and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect began traveling in residential streets before making his way back to Mitchell Road. Officer Wilson stopped Lizarraga by performing a PIT maneuver on the Mitsubishi in the area of Mitchell and Roeding roads and it became disabled.

Lizarraga was arrested for evading police. He appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. A DUI investigation resulted in Lizarraga also being arrested for DUI after providing a breath sample over the legal limit for an adult. Additionally, Lizarraga had a suspended license from a prior DUI. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
