Police say drugged driver parks car on stranger's lawn

Police arrested a driver who allegedly parked his car on a stranger's lawn while being under the influence of narcotics on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

A homeowner living in the 1600 block of Joseph Lane called police at 2:46 a.m. to report that there was a 2006 Ford Focus was parked on their lawn with the headlights on. Police arrived and noted that driver Rene Madrigal, 41, was asleep at the wheel but had the back-up lights on. Patrol units were strategically placed in front of and behind the Ford to prevent the driver from leaving. They rousted him and he began to fight until he realized they were police. He was wrestled out of the car and handcuffed on the ground.

Officers noticed a backpack containing tools sitting in the passenger seat. A paper bag that had been on his lap contained a plastic baggie with crystal methamphetamine.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber said Madrigal could not stay awake while he was being questioned. He was arrested on charges of violating terms of probation and possession of narcotics.
