Police seek man who brandished gun in front of Kmart

Ceres Police Department has issued a call for the public's help to locate a man who allegedly brandished a silver revolver in front of Kmart on Hatch Road.

The incident occurred at 1:43 p.m. on Thursday, April 27. The reporting party stated a black man, driving a white Cadillac (bearing California license #6RSJ142) had just brandished a silver revolver at another man in front of the store. He left the area before police arrived and was last seen driving north on Herndon Road.

The victim was in front of Kmart when the suspect walked out of the store and they exchanged words. The suspect - later identified as Byron Keels, 36, of Modesto, walked to his car and came back with a gun from the trunk. The suspect sat in the front passenger seat of the Cadillac while a heavy set Hispanic female drove him back to the front of the store. The suspect got out of the car and brandished the gun at the man who ran into the store.

Keels is described as black, 5-feet-11 and weighing approximately 195 pounds. He is possibly driving a white 2000 Cadillac Deville with California license plate 6RSJ142. Byron is considered armed and dangerous and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Ceres Police Department urges anyone with information to call 538-5712.
