Sawed-off rifle in car nets arrest

A 44-year-old Riverbank man was arrested on Tuesday morning, Dec. 4 after he was stopped in his car that contained a sawed-off .22 caliber rifle under the floor mat.

At 9:34 a.m. Officer Alex Ochoa pulled over a white Mercedes for expired registration at Hatch and Stonum roads. Driver Jacob Romero was found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

When his car was searched the officer found the rifle.

Romero was booked for possession of a sawed-off rifle, carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle, possession of a firearm without a serial number and the warrants.
