A 33-year-old Modesto woman was taken to a Modesto hospital and issued a citation for DUI after she ran her car through a fence and hit a tree Sunday afternoon near El Camino Avenue and Pine Street.

The crash was reported at 1:38 p.m.

Community Service Officer Dave McCann was first on scene and saw an unresponsive Maranda Kayla Lucy lying on the ground. He applied a sternum rub and she responded by raising her head but didn’t speak. She then returned to an unresponsive state.

Paramedics arrived and began providing medical aid. They believed Lucy was under the influence of some type of drug and administered Narcan to which she immediately responded. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center for further observation.

Officer Billy Carter investigated and learned Lucy was southbound on El Camino Avenue in her 2011 BMW 328I when she hit a curb and left the roadway at the curve in the road. The car struck d tree and a portion of cyclone fence on the west edge of the roadway along El Camino Avenue before coming to rest in the landscaped area at the east edge of Highway 99.

An evidentiary blood sample was taken by hospital staff. Lucy still appeared under the influence when Officer Carter issued her a citation for misdemeanor DUI and left her in the care of hospital staff.
